Old Business

a. Military Memorial

A representative from Mayes Memorial will be invited, again, to attend the next meeting.

b. Report from Photo Committee

Photo committee continues working on this project. They are still accepting photos and/or articles from the community.

c. Guest Book

Diane Snyder was asked to attend to the Guest Book. However, no commitment was made on her part since she and her husband will be out of town during that week. She did say she would discuss the matter with her husband and if possible they may be able to return home in time for her to participate in the celebration.

d. Booklet/Calendars

Keith Barr from K & B Offset Printing attended the meeting. We asked Keith to give us some ideas on a soft bound book that would include pictures, articles, etc. Keith asked how many pages that may be required. Ernie estimated perhaps 65 to 100 pages with a soft cover. Keith felt an 8 ½" by 11" would be most economical. Keith asked how the information would be presented to him. Narratives will be written up, captions for the pictures, etc. Maria suggested sending him the written portion via email with the hopes that would cut down on time and effort on Keith’s part thereby saving money.

Ernie asked how much of a lead time would be needed and Keith thoughtt three weeks would be sufficient. We would receive a proof of the booklet to review before it went to final print.

Keith stated it would cost less a 72 to 100 page booklet will be (blank ink on white paper, color cover with black ink), digitally produced, than using the lithograph method. Keith suggested also using "saddle stitch" for the binding. Keith will run a "dummy" booklet for our review as well as several estimates.

Calendar:

Keith presented several types of calendars for our review. He will also provide us with a price for the calendars assuming most of the photos will be black and white. Keith will run a "dummy" calendar" based on a 12, 14 or 18 month calendars. The committee asked for prices of 250 & 500 calendars.

Maria wants to do a mass mailing of a brochure providing information on the celebration and Keith offered us a discount in mailing costs using K & B’s presort, stamping permit.

Ernie also asked Keith to ask his mother for photos.

e. Township

Nothing new to report on the Township. Denny and Danny will be going back to the Township after January 1, 2009 to apply for the necessary permits..

f. Parade

Denny reported he spoke with Lee Pressler about the parade. Lee gave Denny a lot of information. Lee expressed the importance to Denny that we need to map out the parade route so that the emergency vehicles would/could leave if called. Denny suggested starting at Jeremiah and Patty Higgins property and perhaps ending at Rider’s farm.

g. Picnic

Bob Stocks will plant sweet corn early for our picnic and also Carl Gates.

h. Military Reenactment Camp

Nothing new to report. They are scheduled to attend.

m. Fire Works

n. Insurance

Sam Wasson is David Siphron’s insurance agent. As long as we don’t charge to attend this event, we don’t need insurance. But with fireworks, we will.

Dave Ellenberger is still checking on insurance to use the church property. The church council approved using the ground.

o. Ernie received the grant application from Scott Conklin office. Ernie also contacted the Centre County Historical Society and asked if we could join them. Their next meeting is Nov. 24, 2008.

The grant has to be submitted by the second week in December, 2008. If it is approved, it will take up to 18 months to receive the money.

New Business

Ernie Harpster wrote up a Gatesburg Homecoming notice. He wanted to pass these out at the election hall on Nov. 2, 2008. Ernie reported he contacted the election board in Bellefonte and they granted permission to have a booth at the election hall (church in Fairbrook) to hand out these notices during election day.
