Meeting Minutes 5/5/09

 

1.     Attendees:

Ken Vasko (minute taker), Anna Peters, Diane Snyder, Jenny Barto, Jeanne Siphron, Jerry Schumacher, Dave Heubner, Ernie Harpster, Denny Moore, Dan Rhodes, Carl Gates,

 

2.     Minutes from previous meeting

A.    Maria not attending – we miss her – get well

B.    Anna/Ernie read their notes from last meeting

3.     Budget Review

A.    Ken read updated budget.

B.    Diane updated number on History Book (10), Cookbook (6), Mugs (13), Utensil Jars (16), and Plates (0).  Only one wheelbarrow mug ordered so far.

  1. Ernie recommended combining monies memorial and general, committee agreed
  2. Diane - no new monies from advertisers

5.     Committee Reports

  1. Military Memorial

1.     Ernie - All bricks are donated. Need to meet with Bill Peters on digging the foundation. Invite him to next meeting.

2.     Copies of Jerry’s memorial photos were liked (3 walls)

3.     Ken sketched a quick Memorial area layout. Committee likes the ideas.

4.     Group agreed to look at the location next week

5.     Genny- Make sure Donavan Truax, Bill Fleeger and Dave Andersen are on plaque

6.     Ernie - Ken Johnson from Fairbrook, too.

7.     Group agreed to a final review of list before engraver is given order.

8.     Ernie - Scott Conklin, Steve Dersham, and John Ike said they would attend. Scott to speak at dedication.

9.     Dan – VFW firing squad

  1. Book/Photo Committee

1.      Jeanne - 2 meetings yesterday, Monday, 05/04/2009

a.      Photo selections done at 263 chosen

b.     Need to write captions

c.      Need more stories written

2.     Jeanne continues…

a.      Jerry received photos from group.

b.     They are organized in chapters and have information with them she can use as captions.

c.      Jerry continues laying out chapters.

d.      


3.     Jerry contacted Theresa Bonner then Bob Heisse, executive editor for the Centre Daily Times.

a.       Bob gave Jerry permission, by phone, to use CDT articles in the history book.

b.     Articles should be cited.

c.      He also asked for 2 or 3 copies of the book

  1. Guest Book

1.     Diane – design and engraving are coming

  1. Township

1.     Dan and Denny attended Township meeting.

2.     They reported to Supervisors about parade, parking C-Net, police

3.     Supervisors gave no objections just cooperation. All went well.

4.     We should ask Mark Kunkle to advertise again in next township flyer

5.     Ernie – tent coming

6.     Need permits for tent and police

7.     No building permits needed for memorial per Jeff Ressler, zoning officer

  1. Parade

1.     Dan – we have permission from Leah Waskob for staging parade

2.     Denny - Majorette corps has an interest in coming to parade

3.     Carl invited Centre County Dairy Princess

4.     Denny discussed form to send to all parade members

5.     Anna – do we need a waiver for parade participants?

a.      Diane will supply example to committee

6.     Ernie – Coburn Brass civil war group wants to come, enumeration?

7.     Ernie – Karen Gibbs (Gene and Mary Weaver) 2 confederate groups making inquiries – committee thinks it’s overkill

  1. Picnic…nothing
  2. Military Reenactment…nothing

H.    Blacksmith/Shingle Mill

1.     Shingle guy coming

2.     Still need branding iron made

  1. Cookbook

1.     127 new recipes…460 old

2.     We had samples of one of Diane’s recipes…committee agreed Gatesburg Cow Patties are excellent and belong in the book.

3.     Jerry – Need a release form signed by  Jim Weaver for artwork.

a.      Jerry gave release form from cookbook supplier to Carl

b.     Carl will get release signature

4.     Jerry – covers 6 examples.  Ken likes one, everyone else likes another. Committee agrees we should go with majority choice.

5.     Two personal pages will be addressed by book committee meeting, Monday

  1. Pottery

1.     Potter to start our mugs June 1

2.     Potter ready to start our project June 1

3.     Remember our mugs and plates only have a portion of Gatesburg area clay

  1. Charcoal making/ iron ore

1.     Ernie - Iron Ore guy is coming. Roger Pollock from Zion Penn State

  1. Fireworks…nothing
  2. Advertising/Mailer

1.     Jerry submitted Election ad

2.     Reviewed by committee

3.     Ken suggests pictures of mugs/utensil jar, history/cookbook covers on back

4.     Ernie coordinating Election Day volunteers. Will finalize next meeting

  2. Public Safety

1.     Anna - Their will be porta-potty tax, add to budget

2.     Anna - There is an emptying fee for Saturday morning, add to budget

  1. Yard Sale

1.     2 more booths Bazilla and Frazier

1.     Clowns/face painting 4-8 Friday and 3:30 -8 Saturday

2.     Theresa/Patty/Rachael (Fry) Haymer, Sarah Hackman

1.     Music Friday 2nd Winds  Oldies 8-10 PM

a.      Ernie to approach Houseneck for portable lights

4.     Radio station coordination with live entertainment
