Gatesburg Historical Committee
Meeting – Tuesday, June 2, 2009
Jerry Schumacher, Jenny Barto, Jeannie Siphron, Jim Harpster, Anna Margaret Peters, Ken Vasko, Ernie Harpster and Maria Rhodes were in attendance.
The minutes from the meeting held on May 26, 2009 was approved as read.
Ken provided for the committee’s review an updated budget report. A copy of the financial report will be made part of the recorded minutes.
There is nothing new to report. Ken commented as the event gets closer, a time line will then again be done.
Ernie presented for the committee’s review drawings done by Joe Mannino of the memorial. Joe is going to donate the cement blocks and the top mantle. The concrete base will be poured within the week.
The memorial sub-committee has put a deadline on of June 3, 2009 for any changes or corrections.
Jeannie reported the comparison process of scanned photo verses originals has been done. Jerry reported she has 35 pages completed. She offered for the committee’s review what has been done to date.

A discussion ensued concerning the what donation amount to ask for regarding tickets. It was decided to ask for $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children ages 6 to 12. There will be no charge for children under age 5. Tickets will be provided to those wishing to attend the pig roast.

The cook book order has been placed. Ernie received a call from the publisher asking what color should be used for the back cover (the front cover is yellow). If yellow is used, there will be an additional cost of only $20 so Ernie approved that color. The publisher guaranteed Ernie the books would be done and delivered by July 15, 2009.

Ernie reported that the only item allowed is a hand held item. Any other items will need a Class C permit at a price of $500.00 per state regulations. Maria suggested that the fire works item be dropped entirely due to all the regulations, etc. The committee unanimously agreed.
Maria reported she was still working on the posters to be placed at various public and commercial sites in the area. She asked Jerry if the pamphlet could be redone to fit into the posters she was making. Jerry will make the necessary corrections and forward it to her to print.

Jeannie asked if there will be a map available showing where the yard sale was going to be held. Ken answered yet but that it still had to be done at a later date..
Maria reviewed the items Patty Higgins, Teresa Barger and Tressa have suggested could be done for children activities. No further action was taken.
Ken presented the graphics for the wooden nickel. If we ordered 250, we get 50 free. Since the increased cost for 500 was minimal and the suggestion was made that we could sell any that weren’t given away as souvenirs, Ernie made a motion we order 500. The motion was seconded by Anna Maragret Peters and passed unanimously.
Jerilynn’s brother is a ham radio operator. Protocol is that if they make a contact, a post card with our miner logo will can be sent to the address it was received from. The committee expressed their desire to have him participate in this event.
The next picture meeting will be on Monday, June 15, 2009. The next official meeting will be on Monday, at 7:00pm
