Agenda
1. Attendees
Ernie Harpster, Jenny Barto, Jeanne Siphron, Denny Moore, Dan and Maria Rhodes.
2. Minutes
Dan Rhodes read the minutes. Jeanne Siphron asked that the “booklet committee” be added to the list of committees. The minutes were approved as read.
3. Old Business
a. Military Memorial
Maria reported that a representative from Mayes Memorial would like to attend one of our meetings. He would like to provide us with some ideas and pricing. Maria will try to set up a time for the next meeting for him to attend.
b. Report from Photo Committee
Jeanne reported that all pictures were reviewed for items such as clarity, photo appeal, historical value, farming activity. The committee selected and flagged the photos that were preferred. They rejected pictures that were washed out, blurred, backs of people and also rejected photos based on sentimental and nostalgic alone.
A question was brought up by the photo committee as to whether or not to include military personnel if they are wearing uniforms. The committee would like to have the listing put into the book of the military personnel.
The second question is: they were coming across pictures of people back in the 1800’s, 1900’s, i.e. The committee did not want to offend any one if their family picture is not included. Ernie commented that if we have the pictures, based on the criteria, that they would be included.
Jeanne wanted to know who was going to be responsible for layout of the book. Those in attendance felt that Jeanne could do this, i.e. layout, captions. Another question Jeanne had is how the book should be laid out, i.e. chronological or not. It was decided to do it chronologically.
c. Guest Book
Ernie suggested someone needs to be assigned to the “Guest Book Committee”. It was suggested Diane Snyder be asked to do this project. Jenny will ask Diane.
d. Booklet
Dan Rhodes reported that he was going to speak with Keith Barr with K & B Printing. Dan will ask Keith if he can come to the next meeting to discuss our options.
e. Township
Nothing new to report. Ernie wanted clarification on permits for putting up a tent. Danny said the township will need to issue a permit for erecting a tent. Ernie will contact David Siphron for insurance needs. Denny Moore pointed out the church will have to clarify the insurance requirements for the church property. Ernie asked Denny to speak with Dave Ellenberger on the church property insurance.
f. Parade
Denny reported we can’t do anything until after Jan 1, 2009 on the parade due to Township regulations. Denny wanted to know how far the parade could go. Denny suggested from Tom Johnson to Countryside Nursery. Perhaps extend it to Brown’s lane. Antique farm tractors, auto’s, etc. to be included. Denny suggested asking the Warriors Mark, Port Matilda and Alpha fire companies to attend. Ernie is going to ask Janet Rider to put together a float for all the kids in the community. Maria suggested a military float.
g. Picnic
Danny asked Randy Barger to do a pig roast. Maria asked what the committee would like to serve. Ernie suggested corn, baked beans, coleslaw. Maria will ask Judy Hackman to help with the picnic. Ernie informed us that the 4-H club through Janet Rider would help. Danny also pointed out that we need people for clean up and garbage.
h. Military Reenactment Camp
Ernie has already scheduled the personnel. Ernie suggested setting them up in the field below the church house or by the pond.
i. Black Smith
Ernie will contact Glace Rider.
j. Cook Book
Ernie reported Dorothy Johnson has not received any recipes.
k. Pottery
Ernie is going to get a picture to the pottery company.
l. Charcoal Making
Ernie plans are also in the making.
m. Fire Works
Danny reported he has tried to contact Mr. Barker for fireworks to get prices, etc. Teddy Sunday could also be contacted. Danny and Denny will contact Teddy Sunday on the fireworks asked if he could donate some fireworks for about 15 minutes.
4. New Business
Jeanne needs to set the next date of the photo committee. Jeanne suggested October 22, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.
Ernie would like to have members of the historical committee designated to contact families for pictures, etc.
Next meeting of the Gatesburg Historical Society – October 29, 2008 at 7:00 pm.
